It’s a piece that prolongs the fork steerer so that the stem is fitted much higher than it usually is. But are stem risers safe? How Stem Risers WorkĪ solution that pretty much worked for everyone who wanted to increase handlebar height is adding a stem riser. Good examples of these would be Wake MTB Stem 45 Degree 31.8 90mm, GANOPPER 31.8 Stem 60mm 30 Degree Riser, or SanZhi Bike Stem 31.8 25.4 110mm 0-60 Degree Adjustable MTB Riser. Makes it quicker if this length is shorter, and sluggish if it’s longer. These stems have a shorter effective distance from the head tube which completely changes the bike’s steering capabilities. The problem is, you are used to your bike steering as it is. This is a decent solution for height, but it has problems of its own. However, I’ve found that this isn’t enough for the majority of people with this problem.Īnother solution would be getting a stem that is angled upwards so it raises your handlebar. For people looking to raise handlebars just a bit, this is a perfect solution. The problem with handlebars is, they are quite limited on how much elevation they can provide. A handlebar that has a higher rise between the stem and bar ends will help tremendously. One of the solutions which work the best of all is getting a new handlebar. I’ve found there are several things that work the best but each in a different way. There are lots of ways and solutions for this problem, I believe I’ve tried everything there is to try regarding increasing handlebar height. Spoiler alert: we’re going to be talking about stem risers. Mainly people who are not too much into road cycling or mountain biking and just want to be comfortable on their bike which they ride occasionally. The product is durable and has a great finish.I’ve never really looked to raise handlebar height for myself, however, I’ve had countless requests to do so by my customers. The additional rise does offer some nice fine-tuning but this could also be achieved by getting handlebars with different amounts of rise. This relatively low-cost stem could be a great way to fine-tune your cockpit without breaking the bank.Īll in all, it is a great stem but it does look a little bit odd when in the -10mm configuration. I haven’t seen any other stems offering a similar solution. I assume the OneUp EDC will too as it’s very similar to the stash. I tested this stem with both the S.W.A.T and Stash and can confirm these work. With more and more people opting to use steering storage tools such as the One Up EDC, Specialized SWAT and the Granite Stash to name a few it’s important that the stem is compatible. The stem has a really nice finish and even though I’ve fitted and removed it multiple times the bolts and thread have remained durable and consistent. Another example is when I had some bars on test that had a 35mm rise which was too much for the bike I was testing at the time so being able to drop the rise by 10mm equaling 25mm rise total was a big help. I used the Equalizer stem to give me an extra 10mm rise. I found this especially useful on test bikes that came through with the steerer cut short which meant I wasn’t able to adjust the stack height. What is great about the Equalizer is that because it has 10mm +/- you can customise your cockpit to work for you. I’ve used it on multiple bikes with different stack heights and handlebars with different amounts of rise. I’ve now been using the Equalizer Stem for a few months. I will be keeping this on my bike for a while longer to do a long-term test review. The Equalizer was easy to fit with all the adjustment markings and as is the case with most stems once set up correctly you can forget it there and get down to shredding the trails. The black stem instantly looked great on my bike and as the clamps are in two sections this gives plenty of room to show off your handlebars. The Stem Funn sent through is black but other colours are available. Being able to raise the bars 10mm can make a big difference in ergonomics and bike position. Often bike steerers come pre-cut from the factory and these can be too short for certain people. Having the ability to fine-tune your handlebars with +/- 10mm is also a really nice touch. All the useful and important information has been laser cut directly onto the stem and it definitely doesn’t spoil the aesthetics of the product in my opinion.
First impressions are that this is a really nicely machined bit of kit.
